La Máscara de Calakmul. Universo de Jade © 2015 Museo Nacional de Antropología
The ancient Mask of Calakmul is a jade masterpiece of Mayan art, and it is one of the ten masks discovered in 1984, next to the skeleton remains of Yuknoom Yich’aak K’ahk, the last warrior king of the Mayans. Dating as far back as 1,200 years ago, the mask is made up of 57 tiles of jade, two obsidian, and a seashell. For the Mayans, jade was a symbol of birth, vitality, and fertility, and therefore had religious and spiritual importance.
For this project, Manuvo created interactive modules in Spanish and English to enrich the visit. This temporary exhibition was displayed at the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City.
