About the project

Brown in the Ring gathers lullabies, tales, and games that Afro-Colombian families in the Pacific coast, San Basilio de Palenque, Providencia, and the San Andrés archipelago use to raise their kids. Like waves in the sea, their words follow traditional rhythms and cadences, mixing the sounds of Spanish with the Palenquera and Raizal Creole languages. This appbook includes fun interactions, animations, and a musical game featuring traditional instruments.

This appbook is part of the series With Differential Approach launched in 2014 by Fundalectura and the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF) ⎯ whose goal is to celebrate Colombia’s cultural diversity by bringing us closer to the melodies, songs, stories, and games that kids in rural, indigenous, Afro-descendant, and gypsy homes grow up with, featured in their native languages and in Spanish, and with beautiful illustrations by prominent Colombian artists.
